I never get surprised at work, but this week I got stumped.
- My Dad worked on furnaces and air conditioners when I was a young kid, and I always watched him working in the garage.
I guess I always wanted to learn how to fix them, too. As soon as I earned my GED, I decided to attend a local technical school that focused on HVAC maintenance and installation. I excelled in classes, and I loved the hands on learning activities. I studied really hard, and I finished in record time. My Dad got me a job working for the same company as him. In fact, my Dad and I worked on HVAC installation together, until he retired from the company last May. This morning, I was sent to the state park to work on a furnace problem. They stumped me, when I saw the propane boiler heater. I’ve never seen a boiler heater powered by propane, and it was pretty neat. They were using the propane boiler to heat all of the cabins, the bathhouse, and the chicken hatchery. I had to research a couple of things, before I made the repair. Luckily, the boiler was a model that I am familiar with fixing. Although I’ve not seen this particular boiler used with a propane application, I didn’t have much trouble finding and fixing the issue. I even had the right parts on my truck. The whole repair took less than 90 minutes. I’ll be happy to work at the state park again, because it was a beautiful drive and an easy repair job.
