I have a feeling that come Monday there are going to be some angry folks in my office. Yet, there will also be a faction of friends who are grateful that a point of such major conflict is now moot. There is a Heating plus A/C professional who is coming in Friday to take care of an office setback that has gone on too long. I own a small design firm with roughly 20 employees. The group of us work in a space that covers one entire floor of a converted building. 40 years ago clients shopped this old building for everything from shrubbery mowers to shoes. Now, it has become a fairly nice office building. The layout allows for plenty of room and a truly comfortable place to work. However, there is only one thermostat to control the heating and cooling for the whole office. This is a source of a lot of confrontation as co-workers attempt to dominate the control of the temperature. The amount of trepidation created over just a few degrees is honestly stupid. I often suppose it’s less about the temperature than it is about control itself. And, with all the adjusting of the thermostat, the energy bills are getting out of control. So, I’ve made the choice to put an end to all of it once and for all. Friday evening the Heating plus A/C equipment pro will be ripping out the old thermostat and installing a new smart thermostat. The new thermostat will manage the temperature based on various patterns sensed from numerous sensors placed around the office. I will have the only manual override. Finally, no more fighting to get to the thermostat first.
