When my kids were still in Middle School, my wife and I decided to take them on a wonderful foreign vacation. It was the first time my wife and I were out of the country, and the first time our kids ever flew on an airplane. We spent weeks working on the passports and paperwork. The government made us jump through a hundred hoops, before we could leave the country for a single week. The kids were excited for plenty weeks, and I think that we were excited for months. We had our bags packed for several days before our departure date. On the day of our trip, the outdoor temperatures were quite chilly. The kids wore a jacket, and I wore a sweater and pair of jeans. I’m glad the temperatures were cold, because the plane ride was even worse. The whole time we were in the air, the A/C was blasting cold air on my family and I. It must have been 50 degrees inside of the plane. I was shivering, and the kids were complaining during the entire trip. I asked the plane stewardess if they could do anything to adjust the indoor temperatures, but she said the air conditioner was set electronically. I don’t know if that’s true, but she certainly sounded convincing. She did provide us with blankets, but we had to pay three dollars each. By the time my family and I landed, the kids and I were ready for a hot cup of tea and warm biscuit. We really enjoyed our vacation, and the plane ride back home wasn’t nearly as cold as our arrival flight.
